Tasman Journals arose from an apparent need for additional medical and scientific journals in Australia and New Zealand, for both established researchers and those in training. There are currently only three established medical journals in Australia and New Zealand, excluding student journals, and demand surely exceeds supply of publishing slots. Though we are focused on Australasia, we will welcome contributions from countries and institutions beyond these shores.
Tasman Journals will provide open-access web-based journal publications. All published content is provided in PDF and HTML format. HTML articles are formatted to be compatible with Google Scholar meta-data indexing standards.
Tasman Journals has been created by Adj. Clin. Prof. Alasdair Millar PhD FRACP FRCP, who was educated at the University of Glasgow and has held clinical and research positions at the University of Glasgow, Monash University, the University of Otago, the University of Western Australia and (currently) Curtin University Medical School. He is registered as a consultant physician and clinical pharmacologist in both Australia and New Zealand and has worked at teaching and regional hospitals (in order) in Glasgow, Melbourne, Dunedin, Perth, Invercargill and Albany (and short-term appointments at other centres).
The company is presently in a development phase (including this website) and has defined general medicine as its inaugural subject area, with Tasman Medical Journal commencing publication in September 2019. The inaugural journal has a broad title and we hope to introduce specialty titles as required in due course.
We aim to offer ease of submission with the minimum of rules, a thorough and rapid but non-prejudicial review process via Manuscript Manager, and a fair fee structure designed to recover costs. We shall discount fees for bona fide undergraduate and postgraduate students in the fields represented by each Journal.
As well as submitting content to our journals there are other ways that you can contribute to Tasman Journals. Click below to find out how.
The name Tasman Journals is derived from the stretch of ocean that links Australia and New Zealand. The Tasman Sea represents and emphasises the many connections and shared interests existing between the two countries.
The Tasman Sea was named after Dutch navigator and explorer Abel Janszoon Tasman (1603-1659).
